Address by Conference Patron

I have the distinct pleasure of inviting scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to an essential discourse on the integration of sustainability within higher education. EduSustain 2024, predicated on the KASH framework (Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, and Habits), aspires to systematically embed the ethos of sustainability into the academic and cultural fabric of our institution. This holistic approach is designed to prepare our students to navigate and lead in a world defined by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity—the VUCA paradigm.

Our endeavour through EduSustain 2024 is twofold. First, to instil a comprehensive understanding of sustainability's challenges and solutions, thereby enriching our collective knowledge base. Second, to foster a resilient attitude towards these challenges, ensuring a deep-seated commitment to sustainability and ethical stewardship. Furthermore, the development of practical skills and the establishment of sustainable habits are pivotal to our mission, ensuring that the next generation of leaders can effect meaningful, enduring change.

This conference represents an unparalleled opportunity for collaboration, innovation and publications across a wide spectrum of disciplines. It draws together the intellectual and creative might of NMIMS’s diverse schools—ranging from Business Management to Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Pharmacy, Science, Branding & Advertising, Liberal Arts, and Performing Arts. Each discipline plays a crucial role in our shared mission, contributing unique perspectives and solutions to the challenge of sustainability.

I extend a heartfelt invitation to all attendees to engage actively in the first ever INDAM Special conference. EduSustain 2024 is a call to action, a catalyst for change, and a beacon of hope for a sustainable future. I look forward to the rich dialogues, innovative ideas & research, and fruitful collaborations that will emerge, as we collectively chart a course towards integrating sustainability at the core of higher education to ensure a more sustainable and just world.

(President, INDAM)

Message from President, INDAM

The Indian Academy of Management is pleased to announce the special conference organized by the Narsee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, India, on integrating sustainability in higher education. The world faces many challenges, including climate change, artificial intelligence, poverty alleviation, and geopolitical tensions. Stakeholders in the higher education ecosystem must put forward new ideas for building a better environment and creating a sense of purpose to serve humanity meaningfully and compassionately. This prestigious conference is organized to provide an international platform for academicians, researchers, managers, policymakers, and students to share their research findings. I welcome you to submit papers to have an enriching dialogue and exchange of ideas on the sustainable development of organizations in the fast-changing landscape of higher education in India and worldwide.

EduSustain 2024:
Global Conference Bridging Higher Education and Sustainable Future

Climate change, geopolitical factors, renewable energy, land use, and economic tendencies are presenting the sustainability issue with more and more focus. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development works as a global call urging to protect the planet and to make sure the welfare of all. This essential aspect of higher education institutions (HEIs) implies that sustainability should be embedded in HEIs' curricula, teaching methods as well as the overall conduct. United Nations believes this to be so and is thus dedicated to accomplishing this through Sustainable Development Goal 4, which makes the point that education is the key to instilling the sustainability mind-set.

In the recent past, it has been the digital innovation, the introduction of blended learning models, and the increase in global awareness as the main drivers of the quick integration of sustainability in academic curricula. In line of this, the SVKM's NMIMS University will be organising a Global Conference named ‘EduSustain2024’ from 27th - 28th September, 2024 on the theme of bridging higher education and sustainable future. This conference is the first Special Conference of the Indian Academy of Management (INDAM), the Indian affiliate of the Academy of Management. EduSustain 2024 is committed to upholding the symbiotic connections among the higher education sector, government agencies and the industry in order to advance the cause of sustainable development.

The conference aims to bring together and share best practices and findings from different disciplines on how to integrate the sustainability agenda into the fabric of HEIs. These areas are embodied in the curricular integration, research advancements, and the creation of sustainable thought leadership. EduSustain 2024 is the vital forum for discussions which will be creating the future of sustainability in higher education and, of course, the importance of HEIs in the vanguard of this movement towards a more sustainable global society.

Objectives of EduSustain 2024

  • To map the role of HEIs in relation to embedding the sustainability agenda (UN SDGs) in teaching, research, and field action
  • To explore the pedagogical models adopted by HEIs and challenges in advancing sustainability education
  • To explore mechanisms adopted by HEIs to measure sustainability practices and build a sustainability culture
  • To explore avenues for inter-institutional collaborations to advance research, field action projects, and sustainability-related publications
